Top 5 Board Games That Should be on XBLA
April 25, 2007 by PTD Contributor
Sooner than later Settlers of Catan will appear on XBLA, and gamers everywhere will get a chance to play one of the best strategy/social games every devised. The Live Arcade is the perfect venue for fans of all board games to enjoy their favorite games from the comfort of their own couch. With the friend and chat functions of X-box Live, a digital board game could almost be as good as the real thing. Here are five board games that need to show up in the arcade soon as well.
5. Memoir β44
This historically accurate game features various scenarios from all fronts of the war, and allows players to out-maneuver and out-roll each other. With the perfect mix of strategy and luck, it will appeal to both the hardcore and casual player. Memoir β44 may not have a lot of name recognition, but it could keep WWII going on the X-box longer than Call of Duty.
4. Clue
Clue has shown up in video game form before, but it could still make a good showing as a downloadable game. Clue is one of those games that just about everyone has played, and most people have enjoyed. Like Uno, Clue would have a strong social appeal as players race each other to figure out who killed Mr. Body with the candlestick in the ballroom.
3. Dejarik
This game is better known to most people as βthe chess game in Star Wars.β Technically, no one has ever actually played this game, but that does not mean there are not thousands of Star Wars fans who would quickly drop 800 points for the chance to play it online.
2. Risk
The last time that Risk graced a console it was on the PS2, but it was a disaster because the online play was broken. Despite the long play times, Risk is a nostalgic game for many. Playing with a full room of players all making and breaking alliances in the name of world domination would be a blast.
1. Zombies!
Zombies! Is essentially Dead Rising the board game. Players build a zombie infested town tile by tile, and explore it looking for goodies like boomsticks and fire-axes. Then when the helipad finally gets played it is a mad dash through legions of undead to reach the helicopter and escape. At this point the game becomes diabolical as all players gang up to bring harm to whoever is closest to the helipad. Both the gameplay and attitude of this game would be a perfect fit for the Xbox.

The more Zombies! the better!
Memoir ‘44 Online is currently well under development by the publisher, Days of Wonder, which already has a big hit with online Ticket to Ride.
Excellent, I look forward to the fruits of their labor!
