Warhammer Creative Director to talk at Comic-Con

Paul Barnett, creative director for Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning is going to be at Comic-Con International to give a talk on the game this Saturday in San Diego. The topic is “How do you take an entire universe with years of rich storytelling behind it and transfer it seamlessly—and in a compelling way!—to a new medium?”

EA Mythic’s Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning is hoping to bring the game to it’s namesake by showing the online gaming community that you take a massively huge storyline and incorporate it into MMORPG and still keep people coming back for more. With high hopes to keep their loyal fanbase jumping to the online game, as well as enticing more sentients to play, this talk in San Diego is hopefully a sounding board for the people to express what they would like to see and for communication on how to make the game all that more effective.

As usual, the will be brought by the one who has the biggest voice. So, if you just happen to be in San Diego, check out Comic-Con International and listen in for the plans, maybe you, too, will get to share your two cents. If you are not, then, just keep your eyes on the horizon, even if it isn’t all that you expected it to be, once it’s online, The Age of Reckoning may still be everything you ever dreamed. After all, it is a MMORPG, the power is in your hands.

H&M’s Sims 2 designer contestant provides quality, translation to real life, not so much

Style imitating game art, then being translated to mannequins for sale to the masses at H&M might seem like the next logical step for some when it comes to leeching off the marketing wagon of video game glory.  And yet there is just something oddly surreal about staring at a picture of an avatar from Sims 2 sporting an outfit that looks stunning, then tabbing over to what H&M is bragging over its “real life” counterpart.

While this is the generation where fashionistas and designers have no reason not to experiment and create on games such as The Sims 2 or even Second Life, it begs to question, are real life designers and manufactioners actual translating art into a real life model of the graphic image or are they settling for second rate?  Having seen the image of The Sims 2 ava sporting the H&M dress there is no way I would even consider purchasing it, even at the modest $14.90 that the dress is selling for.

The individual that created that dress is probably thrilled to know that their dress was picked and yet at the same time when they saw the translation of it in real life, can you just imagine the look of horror on their face.  I am sure there will be those that are not girly geeks who purchase it anyway, and to them I say, shame on you.  Fashion is important, down to the perfect pair of shoes.  Video games are just as important.  If you are going to mix the two, do it right!

A woman knows lines, cut and style.  What is on the avatar, rocks.  H&M basically designed a dress that Grandma would by their grandkids to try and show them how hip they really are.  “But, Susie it said it was designed by The Sims 2 on it and I know you love to play that game.”   For the record, H&M, just because a lot of geeks wear glasses, doesn’t mean we haven’t been to the eye doctor recently.

Not all Bad Company is worth avoiding

Preston Marlowe, an incorrigible soldier,  hits some harsh terrain as he deals with the consequences of his antics.  Hopefully Sarge, Sweetwater, Haggard and their penchant for trouble won’t get him killed before they find the treasure that they seek.  This group of bad boys has been sent to company B for their wayward actions, now they simply care less for the rules in the face of their quest for gold and wealth.

Battlefield: Bad Company is ready to explode onto shelves.  Packed and shipped, XBox 360 and Playstation 3 players will be able to join the gold hunt June 25, in the US, and June 27, in Europe.  EA Digital Illusions made the announcement today, causing a sigh of relief for this immensely anticipated release which has both a single player and multiplayer modes.

Gaming gets pretty intense online as individuals may choose between attacker or defender in the multiplayer mode.  Ideally you want to protect your crates which either store your gold or your tickets home.  Naturally, you want to tear your opponents crates to shreds.  Essentially, a giant, vicious game of tag, geek style.  What more can one ask for?  Well, if you are really good and play especially hard, which EA Digital Illusions CE assumes you will, they will make available the popular Conquest mode for free.

Spore Creature Creator garners huge numbers on first day.

Build a better being! Have you have been Spored? If you haven’t, then you are one of only few that hasn’t visited and downloaded Maxis’, of Electronic Arts Studios, Spore. According to reports, two spores are being created every second, mine having been completed about 360 seconds ago.

Anyone can download the Spore Character Creator and check out the innumerable ways you can create your very own Spore. For the limited version you can get it free and create as many of the cute little buggers as you want. With the full version, you can create your aliens, go gallivanting across the universe, taking video as if you were on a full fledge alien vacation. All for the price of a couple gallons of gas.

Spore Creature Creator is spectactular hit, directly out of the box. It is everything you could ask for in a game of humor and creation. Don’t get too upset if other people don’t take too kindly to your alien, though, because the Sporepedia is bound to be a catty world, where people can be sweet and kind one minute, then back stab you the next. Despite the inherent need to invoke interpersonal interaction into the game, Spore is already garnering numbers you might need smelling salts upon hearing.
