This tasty gem is delightfully reminiscent of PacMan. Purely indie, there is nothing that one might do other than be reminded that the music is not in the game, there for be grateful, and go play. Thank you PrincessWay games for tantalizing us with this tasty treat.

Operation Immortality comes in the form of MMORPG, who knew?

July 30, 2008 by ibaker · Leave a Comment

What would you do to be the apart of the time capsule that saved humanity? Tabula Rasa explores the destruction of Earth. A MMORPG that investigates the possibilities, will be linked with Operation Immortality. NCSoft’s Richard Garrett is determined that humanity will not die out.

Launching the saved game into space in October 2008 as well as DNA sequences of several people is just the tip of the iceberg for the “Immortality Drive”, the time capsule that is being developed to be launched into space. Today through August 31, 2008, players can send messages and participate in polls that will be apart of the digitized capsule. A select few players will be chosen to have their DNA sequenced, digitized and sent into space on the Immortality Drive.

So, what would you do to achieve immortality? The game is designed to think about what exactly you might do in the event of world cataclysmic annihilation. Personally, I would be mad that the only representation from Earth that was left is a MMORPG. Come on people, we can do better than that! It’s things like this that give good geeks a bad name.

BioWare gives more Mass to Mass Effect

July 29, 2008 by ibaker · Leave a Comment

If you are familiar with Commander Shepard and their quest to save millions of innocent civilians, then you will be pleased to note that BioWare is bringing downloadable content to the PC game. Bring Down the Sky is to be the first in a series of expansions for the game.

Ninety minutes of game play will include a new uncharted world that introduces the deadly Batarian alien race as well as bringing you deeper into the Mass Effect universe in itself. A new original soundtrack is introduced to tantalize the senses and deviate from the musical titration of the game that have already pleased the mind.

BioWare seems set on keeping this game fresh and vibrant. So if you have not ventured into the universe, dip a toe in and get ready to dive in head first. There is much to see, even the most hardened against the genre will be curious and venture to take a look into the vast expanse of the Mass Effect.

On summing up E3.

July 19, 2008 by ibaker · Leave a Comment

I started this week off with hope, because I wanted E3 to be successful. Yes, I had my doubts when they became elitist by cutting the public out, and I really wanted to throw out a few choice words, but then I realized that this was all a matter of opinion. So, I waited. We all held our breaths waiting for something stupendous to occur.

And yes, there were a few videos that were released, that got me a little bit excited. I must confess I almost swooned over Fallout 3, but then again, someone can just breath Fallout and I go mushy all over, so that was just cheating.

FarCry 2, I will nod my head and say, love the concept, sure wish there was more than just video of the developers playing the game for the media to back it. And I cannot forget Tom Clancy’s EndWar, I love what they are doing with it. UbiSoft, your breaking my heart here! I have a huge heart for UbiSoft, even if there are others that might not care for them, but they have some games that I just love.

EA showed some love in a game that will have people gagging with the psychological horror in Dead Space. The game appears to be creepy and scary and shows a very innovative form of game play. With no more messy pop up screens all over the place, and the health meters all visually right on the bodysuit. Pretty crazy and awesome.

So what gives? Why am I here to display so little love for E3 as a whole. We are a gaming community. Developers produce games for the consumer to play. The media spreads the words getting the consumer pumped up. E3 started out small, and that can be appreciated, everyone starts small. My question is, why go back to the proverbial “good ol’ boys” club? Restricting the game play may cause a slight degree of anticipation to gamers by not being allowed to be there, however, the heightened degree of anticipation that was ramped up by gamers being able to go and see the wares being produced, play and experience, then go home and brag, caused all that much more excitement in the gaming world. It kept people coming to the news reels and reading all the latest news, and in reciprocation, had gamers ready to buy far before the date of release. All of which benefited the game developers and production companies.

So who loses in this big mess that E3 created? Everyone. Who knows, and trust me I dare not speculate what they were thinking. The fact of the matter is, while it would be way cool checking out the games first hand, giving back to the community is what it is all about. If we don’t do that, why do we even make the games in the first place?

Getting the games out even to a small market of gamers to let them get a feel for the games, lets you really experience whether your market is going to love the game. Sure, the media in games journalism, if they are worth their salt, have got to be gamers as well, for surely to write love of the game you must love the game. However, there is something to be said for the unadulterated love of gaming and nothing else written on a gamers face. Whether girly geek or gamer stud, all the way down to the smallest child who plays their little heart out, gaming is about playing for no other reason than to enjoy the wares. And that, my friends, is what I love to write about, love of the game. E3 bigwigs, I am sorry, but you lost your love for the game, by denying those who thrive on it.

DC Universe Online unveiled.

July 15, 2008 by ibaker · Leave a Comment

Sony Online Entertainment delights us yet again with glimpses of their upcoming DC Universe Online. Releasing footage of the game so that we might be able to ogle that which we will create and play our own heroes and villians.

Visible, if viewed carefully, are a physics combat system that will awe you and allow you to manipulate the world, making it a weapon itself, not only the ones that are in your inventory. Comic book artist Jim Lee, brings his legendary and unique style to the board making the art pop and creating visual images that will and serving as project’s executive creative director.

So join the likes of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and the The Justice League by creating your own superhero or heroine. Or if you are feeling particularly maniacal with a twist of evil, create a villain bent on thwarting the heroes, with a back history that your mama didn’t love you enough or that you fell into a vat of radioactive goo. Whatever it takes, you will no doubt have endless hours of fun, in the DC Universe Online. Now, I have to figure out how to make a female heroine with porcupine characteristics sexy that isn’t blue and doesn’t look anything like Sonic the Hedgehog. So, go, use your imagination and we can all meet in the game with our characters and have a blast!

Dread Pirate Spork declares Plunder, not; Age of Booty, Aye!

July 11, 2008 by ibaker · Leave a Comment

For months Capcom has been giving us the loot on a casual, real-time multi-player strategy game billed as Plunder. This pirate-themed game has a lot of people geared up to roll with laughter as they chase each other or AI ships around the seas with the goal to set your enemies to walking the plank, as well as looting and capturing each town you encounter.

With the spoils of your successful encounters bringing wealth for your faction and therefore more gold into your pouch, you will be able to upgrade and make your ships even more unique. Players may play in single-player or multi-player mode. Map design has been inspired and led by Max Hoberman, designer of Halo 2 and 3.

So what possibly could be new with all this old news? Certainly, you think I am rehashing old data and that I have am get old and feeble-minded. Patience, young Padawan. Plunder itself was apparently was not a name befitting a game of such awesomeness as Capcom could create, so in preparation for E3 they have unveiled Plunder’s new name, Age of Booty. Arrr, me mateys.

Sarah’s Emergency Room opens it’s doors to Arkansas hospital, coming soon to a console or PC near you.

July 9, 2008 by ibaker · Leave a Comment

It’s time to play word association. I’ll go first. Portugal. Nintendo. Arkansas. No, sorry it is not porcupines. Granted, I think porcupines are great, and their relative the hedgehog has become rather famous in the gaming industry. However, time management and every console or mode of play out there that GAMEINVEST is keen to gamble on.

Has it been done to death? Cutesy character rapid fire rushing through their day to complete an onslaught of tasks to gain rewards and further their career, all for what? And yet, how can we resist Sarah’s Emergency Room where we are treated to every redneck delight imaginable? And as I contemplate this games creation, I have to ask where it came from. Somewhere either someone had to be native to Arkansas or one of it’s neighboring states to be able to give it a nod, therefore comfortable giving it a lighthearted teasing.

No matter the nature of the roots of Sarah’s Emergency Room, I am looking forward to endless hours of laughter as I help Sarah further her career in each Arkansas hospital, treating cases that are bound to have you rolling until you sides split with laughter. Don’t forget your purpose, though, is to hurry up and treat all your patients as fast as you may, promptly and courteously, with no mishaps. Oops, I think Dr. Ben Tooth forgot his drill, you might want to return it to him so he can extract that tooth from patient Jane Doe.
