Sony Online Entertainment is showing their support for all the g.i.r.l. geeks that love to design games. Julia Brasil of San Francisco is the 2008 G.I.R.L. Game Design Competition rock star. $10,000 tuition scholarship toward her education at The Art Institute of California and a paid internship of up to 10 week at SOE is her loot. How cool is that?
Over 100 women competed in the competition to bring a feminine face to Sony Online Entertainment. All students of The Art Institute, each of the students that participated in the contest had to complete an in-game design, concept art and two essays. This premier event occurred based on surveys posed by SOE that led them to realize that women needed to have more of a face in the gaming industry, especially behind the scenes, creating the games.
So what will Julia Brasil be doing to help show that her education is paying off? Blogging, of course! She will be keeping us up-to-date with blurbs of what’s going on the G.I.R.L. Blog, thanks to Sony Online Entertainment. I love being a girly geek!
